I had read Anandha madam in Tamizh in my school library. Was the translation by TNKumaraswamy? Recently, I read an English translation . Quite faithful to the original. Bankim wrote very elegant and lyrical prose...simple conversational style but of literary loveliness . I have seen the Hindi film also . Acting by PriithviRaj Kapoor is breath-taking. The novel had the famous Sanyasi Rebellion as the background..shades of communalism - regrettably- perhaps to escape censor.
