காந்தியும்  ‘குருதேவ்’ என்று
     கைகுவித் திறைஞ்சும் தாகூர்
மாந்தருள் பலநாட்டாரும்
     மதங்களும் மருவி வாழ்ந்து
தேர்ந்தநல் லறிவை அன்பை
     செகமெலாம் பரப்ப வென்றே
 ‘சாந்திநி கேதன்’ என்ற
     சமரசச் சங்கம் தந்தோன்.   ( நாமக்கல் கவிஞர் )

“I had gone a-begging from door to door in the village path, when thy golden chariot appeared in the distance like a gorgeous dream and I wondered who was this King of all kings!

My hopes rose high and methought my evil days were at an end, and I stood waiting for alms to be given unasked and for wealth scattered on all sides in the dust.

The chariot stopped where I stood. Thy glance fell on me and thou camest down with a smile. I felt that the luck of my life had come at last. Then of a sudden thou didst hold out thy right hand and say `What hast thou to give to me?'

Ah, what a kingly jest was it to open thy palm to a beggar to beg! I was confused and stood undecided, and then from my wallet I slowly took out the least little grain of corn and gave it to thee.

But how great my surprise when at the day's end I emptied my bag on the floor to find a least little gram of gold among the poor heap. I bitterly wept and wished that I had had the heart to give thee my all.”

மே 7. ரவீந்திரநாத் தாகூரின் பிறந்த தினம்.

தாகூரின் கீதாஞ்சலியின் தாக்கத்தில் கவிமணி சில பாடல்கள் இயற்றியுள்ளார். இவை நண்பர்களின் தூண்டுதலால் 1925-30 காலத்தில் எழுதப்பட்டன என்பர்.

இவற்றில் உள்ள முதல் இரண்டு பாடல்களையும், அவற்றின் ஆங்கில மூலங்களையும் இங்கே இடுகிறேன்.

என்றுமெனை அழிவிலாப் பொருளா யியற்றினை

         ஈதுனது திரு வுள்ளமே;

   ஈடற்ற கலமித கவிழ்த்திக் கவிழ்த்தியுயிர்

        ஏனோ திருத்தி வைப்பாய்?

குன்றினொடு குழியெலாம் இச்சிறிய வேயின்வரு

        குழல் கொண்டு சென்ற நீயுன்

  குமுதவாய் வைத்துநவ நவமான இசைகள் செவி

        குளிரவே ஊதி நிற்பாய்;

பொன்றுத லிலாதநிலை தரவல்ல உன்கரப்

        புனிதமுடல் தீண்ட லாலே,

  பூரித்த உள்ளமகி ழெல்லையற மாய்ந்ததும்,

       போற்றமொழி யற்று நின்றேன்;

நன்றுதவு கொடைகோடி இக்குழவி கைகளில்

       நாளும்நீ அள்ளி யிடினும்,

  நான்குறைகள் சொல்லி அருள் வேண்டா திருந்திடேன்,

       ஞானஒளி வீசி மதியே!

தாகூரின் மூலம்: ( கீதாஞ்சலியில் முதல் பாடல்.  தாகூரே தன் வங்க மொழிப் பாடலிலிருந்து மொழிபெயர்த்தது.)

பண்ணொழுகு பாடலைப் பாடென் றெனக்குமருள்

       பாலிக்கும்வேளை, இந்தப்

  பாரெங்கும் அறியாத கர்வமது பொங்கிப்

       பரந்துளம் விம்ம நிற்பேன்;

அண்ணலுன் திருமுகம் நோக்கிநிற்பேன்; விழிகள்

       அருவிநீர் பாய நிற்பேன்;

  ஆகாத குணமெலாம் அடியோடு நீங்கநல்

       அமுதகுணம் ஓங்க நிற்பேன்;

எண்ணரிய ஆழியைத்தாண்டுபுள்போல் அன்பும்

       இறகினை விரிக்கும், அதனால்

  ஏத்தியிசை பாடத் தொடங்குவேன்; நீயும் அதில்

       இன்புறுவை என்ப துணர்வேன்;

நண்ணுதற் கானவழி வேறெதுங் கண்டிலேன்;

       நானுமென் களிம யக்கால்,

  நண்பனென் றேயழைக் கின்றனன்; என்னையாள்

       நாதனே! ஞான பரனே!
